FAQ

What gear do we need?

Lacrosse is a high-scoring, fast-paced game. Due to rules and the nature of the game, protection is required for players. Lacrosse is a contact sport, but not a collision sport.

Boys wear pads to protect their bodies from stick checks and shots with the balls.

The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) has created certifications for both helmets and shoulder pads that players of all ages are required to wear.

Elbow pads, gloves, mouth guard, and undershorts with a protective cup are also necessary.

Refer to the USA Lacrosse guide to help select your gear.  https://www.usalacrosse.com/equipment)

Our coaches check that all gear is compliant for effective protection.

Does NOFU provide any equipment?

At this time, families provide equipment for their players, including goalies.

Most gear is locally available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Play It Again Sports, Lacrosse Unlimited and Academy Sports.

Families who want to borrow gear should contact their coach. A limited amount of used gear is available for loan to players for a season.

Is a NOFU uniform included in the registration fee?

Yes. All players will receive a reversible team shirt and shorts.

What skill levels are NOFU players?

As a development club, we carry players of all levels. Some play for a short while and others are on their path to become NCAA players at top college lacrosse teams.

The Junior and Senior Select teams that play in spring have tryouts.

Can my son get lessons?

Coaches are your best source for finding someone to give private or small group training. Local coaches, former NOFU players and others around our area offer training at homes, park fields, private training centers and more.

What’s the connection with NOFU and playing on a select or travel team?

Travel lacrosse has expanded and NOFU players compete on Thunder, Team 91, 3d, Dirty Birds and Empire. Many players compete with NOFU in spring then play with travel teams in summer and fall.

Is there any lacrosse in the winter?

The Swarm Box League supports indoor lacrosse leagues for boys and girls during the winter season.

Is there college or pro lacrosse to see in Atlanta?

The best local college options are at Kennesaw State, Oglethorpe University, and Georgia Tech.

Georgia Swarm box lacrosse and a PLL (Premiere Lacrosse League) tour stop in Atlanta have exciting pro lacrosse games.
